Second Saturday Bird Walk at John Reginato River Access Trail

This trail leaves the parking lot of the John Reginato Boat Launch on the west side of the Sacramento River off South Bonnyview Road. Good views of the Sacramento River are afforded on this short trail as it traverses a mixed riparian woodland. We should see a variety of winter resident passerines and waterfowl and possibly a few recently arrived summer residents. Meet our leader, Chad Scott, at the parking lot on the south side of the Redding Civic Auditorium. This half-day walk is open to the public and all birding skill levels are welcome.

Second Saturday Bird Walk at Turtle Bay

We will return again this month to Turtle Bay and environs to view all the wintering waterfowl. As in January we will walk around Turtle Bay, the pedestrian walkway on the Hwy.44 bridge and maybe Kutras Lake. Assemble in the parking lot on the south side of the Redding Civic Auditorium. Brooke McDonald will lead.

Second Saturday Bird Walk at Turtle Bay and Kutras Lake

We will walk the paved trail around Turtle Bay and then walk the Hwy. 44 pedestrian bridge to view waterfowl on the ponds and the main Sacramento River channel. If time allows we will also visit Kutras Lake. Assemble in the parking lot on the south side of the Redding Civic Auditorium. Chad Scott will lead.

Second Saturday Bird Walk at Lema Ranch

Lema Ranch, an oasis of open space in Redding, is excellent year-around birding. The ponds, orchards, and fields of the McConnell Foundation Headquarters provide an abundance of bird species. We will look for Common Gallinules, Marsh Wrens, Great-tailed Grackles, Lark Sparrows and other Lema Ranch specialties. This will be a 2-3 hour walk on paved trails with fine public restrooms. Meet our leader, Chad Scott, at the north parking lot off Hemmingway Street. Hemmingway Street is across from Mountain View school on Shasta View Drive.

Second Saturday Bird Walk at Battle Creek Wildlife Area

The Battle Creek Wildlife Area totals 582 acres of riparian forest, marshes and oak woodlands and hosts a diverse variety of migratory and resident birds. We plan to be in the field 3-3/12 hours  walking approx. 3 miles primarily on level improved trails.  A pit type toilet is available at the parking area, No drinking water is available. Following the walk we will check-out the Hummingbird feeders at the hatchery and eat lunch.  We will be leaving from the south parking lot of the Redding Civic Auditorium at  8:00 am to carpool or meet us at the Battle Creek Wildlife Area around 8:30.
