Wintu/BLM Field Trip to Hog Lake

Wintu Audubon will join BLM staff on a full day trip to Hog Lake. Join David Byers and Tim Kashuba to explore this new destination for Wintu Audubon members. Recently seen species include Tundra Swan, American Wigeon, Ring-necked Duck, Greater Yellowlegs and Lewis’s Woodpecker! This walk includes a relatively flat 1/2 mile walk to the lake and another 1/2 to 3/4 mile to explore some of the vistas to the north. Bring your lunch and water. Participants are required to have proof of full COVID-19 vaccination and sign waiver. Meet at the Hog Lake Parking Lot at 7:30 am, approximately 10 miles east of Red Bluff on SR 36, 40.27898, -122.12182.

Wintu Audubon Outing to Meiss Lake

Meiss Lake is part of the Butte Valley Wildlife Area in Siskiyou County. The habitat includes wetlands, croplands, grasslands and woodlands and birders may see Ross’s Goose and Tundra Swan, a variety of dabbling ducks, shorebirds, hawks, and owls. Meet trip leader Larry Jordan 949-5266 at the Kutras parking lot at 7 am for carpooling. Bring a lunch.

Llano Seco & Chico Wastewater Treatment Plant Outing

Sandhill Crane

Llano Seco has a couple of viewing platforms overlooking large impoundments and marshy islands. We should see a wide variety of dabbling ducks. Sandhill Cranes, Tundra Swans, and geese are likely. Renovation and improvements to the Chico WWTP is complete and includes improved access to birders including a blind. We should again see a variety of dabbling ducks. Meet the leader, George Horn, at the South side of Kutras Park on Park Marina at 7:30 am to carpool. Bring a lunch for this full-day trip.
